Tulane Law alum confirmed as federal judge

June 20, 2013

The U.S. Senate on June 17 confirmed U.S. Magistrate Judge Luis Felipe Restrepo, a 1986 Tulane Law School graduate, to U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

President Barack Obama had nominated Restrepo on the bipartisan recommendation of Pennsylvania Sens. Bob Casey, a Democrat, and Pat Toomey, a Republican. The confirmation came on a voice vote.

Restrepo became magistrate in 2006 after working in private practice with a focus on criminal defense and civil rights. He also had worked as an assistant federal defender and for the Defender Association of Pennsylvania.

Restrepo is a native of Colombia and became a U.S. citizen in 1993, according to a news release issued by the senators.
