Todd Stamps, Tulane Law School’s assistant supervisor of maintenance, receives his Staff Excellence Award from Santa-hatted University President Michael Fitts.
Among those congratulating Lisa Lamonte, legal administrative assistant for Tulane’s law clinics, on her Staff Excellence Award is Professor David Katner, director of the Juvenile Law Clinic.

Surprise and puzzlement covered Todd Stamps’ face when Tulane University President Michael Fitts walked into the law school’s Marian Mayer Berkett Multipurpose Room Dec. 12 wearing a Santa Claus hat.
But when Fitts praised Stamps’ “dedication and concern, above and beyond the call of duty” and presented him with a 2014 President’s Staff Excellence Award, the assistant supervisor of maintenance didn’t miss beat.
“It’s my staff,” Stamps said immediately. “I don’t do it alone. I have a good staff.”
Stamps and Lisa Lamonte, legal administrative assistant for the law clinics, were among the Tulane employees recognized as best representing high achievement in their contributions to the university.
The president presents a maximum of 10 awards each year, and it’s rare for two honorees to come from the same school or campus unit.
“All who work with Lisa and Todd will know how richly they each deserve this all-campus recognition,” Dean David Meyer said in congratulating them.
“Lisa is both the cheerful face of our clinics for many clients and the invisible administrative force that makes them operate so smoothly and effectively,” he said. “Todd is tireless in anticipating the facilities needs of our community and in doing whatever it takes to keep the law school humming, whether battening down for hurricanes or showing up early on a Saturday to help set up for a special event.”
The award comes with a cash bonus and an invitation to dinner with the president.
