Tulane Law Adjunct Peter Strasser Becomes U.S. Attorney

August 30, 2018

Peter Strasser

A long-time New Orleans federal prosecutor and associate professor in Tulane Law School’s Trial Advocacy program has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to lead the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Peter Strasser was confirmed Aug. 28 without objections as the new U.S. Attorney for the New Orleans-based district, which covers 13 parishes in southeast Louisiana including Orleans, Jefferson, Lafourche and St. Tammany. The office has been without a permanent appointee for more than 17 months.

Strasser was nominated by President Trump and is a partner at Chaffe McCall law firm in New Orleans. Strasser spent 30 years working in the Department of Justice, mostly as a prosecutor in the Eastern District. Before that he spent just over a decade as a legal attaché in the U.S. State Department in various overseas postings. He is a retired Navy Reserve captain who served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps.

Strasser received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia, and his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University.  Since 2014, Strasser has worked with Tulane Law students in the Trial Advocacy program, teaching them hands-on litigation and courtroom skills.
