James Garner, a member of Sher Garner Cahill Richter Klein & Hilbert in New Orleans, is a trial lawyer specializing in commercial and complex litigation. He has been lead counsel in complex and class action litigation in New Mexico, California, West Virginia, Kansas, Arizona, Indiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas stemming from asbestos exposure, benzene exposure, mass closings of big-box retailers, noise pollution and cases involving commercial, banking and bankruptcy issues.

As a chemical engineer and former drilling engineer, he also is active in the oil and gas field and numerous oil companies and oil field contractors in contract and tort litigation and as claimants in the BP Macondo Litigation.

Garner argues regularly before the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, the Louisiana Courts of Appeal and the Louisiana Supreme Court, and he teaches Advanced Appellate Advocacy as a Tulane Adjunct Lecturer in Law.

While attending Tulane Law, Garner served on the Tulane Law Review Board of Editors in 1987-88 and as managing editor in 1988-89. He now serves on the Board of Advisory Editors. He also belongs to the American and Louisiana bar associations and has held numerous leadership offices in the Federal Bar Association. He also belongs to the Defense Research Institute, Louisiana Association of Business and Industry and Louisiana Bankers Association.
