Externship-Corporate Counsel

The Corporate Counsel Externship course is an experiential, one semester 3-credit, pass/C/fail law school course, where students are placed under the supervision of in house counsel at a corporate externship host site, while completing coursework and tutorials under the supervision of a Tulane faculty member. The corporate counsel externship course has the following learning outcomes: (1) To learn substantive law relevant to in-house practice; (2) To develop lawyering skills in an in-house corporate setting, including legal research and analysis, drafting, business client communication, and teamwork; (3) To learn the ethical responsibilities and examine fundamental professional values of in-house counsel; (4) To assist student reflection about the legal profession in context and to learn how to learn from experience; and (5) Refine career goals through placement in an in-house practice.
