Joel Friedman, a 46-year Tulane Law School faculty member until his retirement in 2022, has expertise in employment discrimination law, labor law, civil procedure, mediation, and online legal education.
He is the author of The Law of Employment Discrimination: Cases & Materials, 12th edition (Foundation Press 2019); Cases and Materials on Civil Procedure, 5th ed. (Thomson/West 2017), with Michael Collins; and Employment Discrimination: Examples & Explanations, 3d ed. (Aspen Publishers 2017). He’s also editor of Employment Discrimination Stories (Foundation Press 2006).
His biography of the late federal Judge John Minor Wisdom, Champion of Civil Rights, was published by LSU Press in 2009.
Friedman has published law review articles on employment discrimination law and labor law and has served as a consultant to the Louisiana Legislature on equal employment opportunity, child abuse and gender-neutral insurance rating.
Until his retirement, he was the Director of Online Legal Education at Tulane and, in that capacity, founded and directed Tulane’s online Master of Jurisprudence degrees and its online Title IX certification program.
