Alum Nominated to the U.S. Court of International Trade

Tulane Law School alumnus M. Miller Baker (L'84) has been nominated to U.S. Court of International Trade by President Donald Trump.

Baker serves as a litigation partner and co-chair of the appellate practice group in the Washington, D.C., office of McDermott Will & Emery, LLP, where he has practiced for the last 17 years.

As an appellate attorney, Baker has argued appeals in the U.S. Supreme Court and nine of the thirteen Federal courts of appeals.  His expertise includes matters involving constitutional law, preemption, health care, patents and intellectual property, energy and environmental law, election law, securities and white collar defense, among other areas.

As a trial lawyer, Baker has litigated in state and federal trial courts in seventeen states and the District of Columbia.  He served as counsel to Senator Orrin Hatch on the Senate Judiciary Committee and, during the final two years of the Reagan administration, he served in the U.S. Department of Justice, first as an attorney-advisor in the Office of Legal Policy and later as special assistant to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights.

Prior to that, Baker also served as an intelligence officer in the Naval Reserve and as a law clerk to a federal appeals court judge and a federal district court judge.

Born in Louisiana, Baker received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and his JD from Tulane Law School.
