Tulane Law students provide free tax help Saturdays to April 15

Tulane University Law School students are holding Saturday clinics providing free tax return assistance to qualified taxpayers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

VITA help is available to workers who make $54,000 or less. Student volunteers are IRS-certified to assist with tax return preparation and filing.

The clinic is open March 18 and April 1, 8 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 151 of Tulane Law’s John Giffen Weinmann Hall, 6329 Freret St. in New Orleans. Federal tax returns are due April 18 this year.

Taxpayers should bring the following documents:

— Government-issued ID

— Social Security cards for every person included on the tax returns

— All tax documents, including W-2 and 1099 forms and Social Security statements

— Prior year tax returns and documents

— Information regarding insurance coverage as required under the Affordable Care Act. Taxpayers also must bring information showing health insurance coverage for each member of their household in addition to Form 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace Statement.
