Diana Velez is in her fourth year as a Career Counselor in Tulane Law School’s Career Development Office. She brings a broad range of substantial real-world experience as a licensed attorney to share with, guide, and assist Tulane’s law students as they prepare for their careers in the legal profession. Ms. Velez has practiced as a transactional lawyer and litigator in law firms and corporate law departments. She has served the public, working for the Louisiana Supreme Court in its enforcement of ethics and professionalism among the Louisiana Judiciary as an Assistant Special Counsel for the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana. During her tenure with the Judiciary Commission, Ms. Velez gained valuable experience in administrative law, procedure before the Louisiana Supreme Court, and many substantive areas of Louisiana law, as well as a perspective of what public legal employers require of their attorneys. Later, working as the Civil Department Manager for the St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court, State of Louisiana, Ms. Velez gained additional experience and perspective as an attorney in public service and additional expertise in interpreting and applying Louisiana Civil Procedure and District Court Rules.
In addition to her education and training as an attorney, Ms. Velez is also a trained Mediator. Before counseling law students in Tulane’s Career Development Office, Ms. Velez served as the Program Director of Paralegal Studies at Nunez Community College. She counseled paralegal students and taught classes. She has been an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and was selected as a Leader in the Law by New Orleans City Business. Her work experience as a licensed practicing attorney in the public and private sector, as well as her experience in teaching and counseling students, enables Ms. Velez to provide Tulane’s law students with valuable insight concerning their career choices and decisions, which they face while they are at Tulane.
