Mardi Gras Moot Court Invitational

The Annual Tulane Moot Court Mardi Gras Invitational will be held over a 3-day period from January 21 to January 23, 2027.
 

About the Competition

Mardi Gras Invitational is the only annual moot court appellate competition that focuses on contemporary legal problems confronting the sports industry. The competition draws the best law schools and moot court programs in the country and takes place during one of the most exciting times in New Orleans, Mardi Gras. The rules for the 2027 competition can be found here.

The registration fee for the competition is $950.

MGI Competition Registration Opens - September 1, 2026
Team Registration and Payment Deadline - November 1, 2026
Packet Released - November 2, 2026
Deadline to request interpretation of problem - November 12, 2026
Briefs Due - Monday, December 22, 2026, by 5:00 pm Central Time
Welcome Reception - January 21, 2027
Release of full schedule, Rounds 1 and 2 - January 21, 2027
Round 3, Quarter Finals - January 22, 2027
Semi-finals and Finals, Award Ceremony - January 23, 2027

Late registration will be permitted from November 1 to November 16, 2026, for an increased registration fee of $1,200.

 

In the past, judges have included Don Fehr, Executive Director of the NHL Players Association; Richard Berthelson, General Counsel of the NFL Players Association; Stan Kasten, Former President of the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Thrashers, Atlanta Braves, and Washington Nationals; Andrew Brandt, ESPN Business Analysis and Lecturer at Wharton Sports Business Initiative, and many others.

The competition will be held at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
