The Tulane Environmental Law Society is hosting the 12th Annual “Environmental Conference on Law, Science and the Public Interest” on March 9-10th (Fri-Sat). This two-day Conference includes thirteen panels, workshops, and presentations focused on topics including the fate of Louisiana Cypress, coastal restoration, New Orleans recovery and green rebuilding, nuclear energy, coal development, and climate change impacts, policy and litigation. The Conference will be held at Tulane Law School (6329 Freret Street, New Orleans, LA 70118).
The conference will feature a 2-hour theatrical performance of the play, Welcome To Chalmette, documenting the Hurricane Katrina Murphy Oil Spill (what was and still is the largest residential oil spill in the history of mankind), and its effects on the lives of St. Bernard Parish residents. Welcome to Chalmette will be performed Wednesday, March 7, at 7pm and again Friday, March 9, at 6:30pm in the Freeman Auditorium, which is located in Tulane’s Woldonberg Art Center.
On Sunday afternoon a guided tour of both the Lower Ninth Ward and the Murphy Oil spill in Chalmette will be offered. The Conference also includes a poster-making contest with the theme “Dreaming a new New Orleans” for high-school and college students.
