The Eason Weinmann Center for International and Comparative Law is named after Virginia Eason Weinmann and the Honorable Ambassador John Giffen Weinmann, one of the most distinguished and dedicated graduates of Tulane Law School. It is thanks to their generosity and continued support that the Center was created in 1981 and has since then grown into an internationally recognized powerhouse for foreign, comparative and international research and teaching.

Ambassador Weinmann served as United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Finland before being appointed by President George H. W. Bush as Chief of Protocol of the White House. Other positions in his diplomatic career include service as United States Commissioner General for the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition and Chief Delegate of the United States to the Bureau of International Expositions in Paris.

Ambassador Weinmann is a former Chair of Tulane University's Board of Administrators, former President and Director of the Waverly Oil Corporation, and former Chairman of the Board and Director of the Eason Oil Company. He practiced law for 28 years at Phelps Dunbar and was, inter alia, General Counsel for the Times-Picayune Publishing Corporation. He also served as Secretary of the Louisiana State Bar Association and as a member of the State Bar House of Delegates. Ambassador Weinmann was the first recipient of the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award given by the Young Lawyers Sections of the Louisiana State Bar Assocaition. He was Chairman of the Junior Bar Conference of the American Bar Association, Chairman of the Section of Bar Activities, Secretary of the American Bar Endowment, and a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates.

While at Tulane, Ambassador Weinmann was President of the Student Body, a batallion commander of the Naval ROTC, co-manager of the football team, a member of the Tulane Law Review, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the Order of the Coif, and Omicron Delta Kappa.
