Candidates Attire

All candidates MUST wear academic regalia (cap and gown). Please remember that only University-provided or pre-approved student org regalia accessories are permitted. Questions about regalia accessories can be sent to Dean Wojna-Hodnett at ewojna@tulane.edu. We strongly encourage wearing comfortable clothing and shoes underneath your regalia to avoid overheating or tripping on stage. Graduates will not be permitted to bring bags inside the Fieldhouse so please plan to leave any extra personal belongings with guests or in Weinmann Hall during the ceremony.

Candidate Instructions

Student check-in will start at 11 a.m. on the first floor of Weinmann Hall, make sure to arrive no later than 11:30 a.m. Law graduates will be assigned to assemble in either room 110 or room 157 of Weinmann Hall. You must check-in and pick up a card that indicates your position in the procession. You will be lined up alphabetically based on your last name on your diploma. It takes a good deal of time to get everyone in the right place, so please arrive on time, pick up your name card, and pay attention when we start to form the line. 

Student line-up in each classroom will take place at 11:45 a.m. The procession will start promptly at noon  and the ceremony should last no more than 2 hours. 

The Law School marshals will lead the graduates onto the arena floor, and ushers will guide you into the reserved seating sections. Programs will be on your chairs.   Please visit the Tulane site at https://commencement.tulane.edu/ and check your email for updates and additional information.

Following the Law School Commencement, an informal reception will be held on the 1st floor of Weinmann Hall.

 

Guest Information

Guests may go directly to Devlin Fieldhouse. Please instruct family and guests that they should not arrive at Devlin Fieldhouse before 11 a.m. as doors open at 11:00 a.m. at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Delvin Fieldhouse.

Clear Bag Policy at Devlin

A clear bag policy is being enforce at the Law School Commencement Ceremony and Unified Ceremony. Students should not have a bag or purse while processing into Devlin. Students can leave bag, purses and other items in their lockers or in the classroom. To learn more about the Policy, click here.

Before we begin the program, note that Tulane University promotes and protects the free exchange of ideas through prohibiting the physical or virtual disruption, shouting down, blocking or suppressing a protest, demonstration, or invited speakers’ right to speak. Disruptions of this nature will result in removal from the event.

ADA 

Tulane University is committed to hosting inclusive and accessible events, ensuring all individuals, including those with disabilities, can fully participate. Reasonable accommodations are provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act with sufficient notice.

Pre-requested ADA seating will be located on the floor, please find an usher for assistance. While seating for the entire party cannot be guaranteed, additional  ADA seating is available on a first-come, first-served bases.

Devlin Fieldhouse has a ramp entrance located on Freret Street near Jones Hall.

Are students allowed to bring family to the Law School commencement ceremony?

  • Yes

Will the event be live-streamed?

  • Yes. Livestreaming will start at noon May 16. A link will be provide soon.

How many guests can students bring to the Law School commencement ceremony?

  • The Law School commencement ceremony is a non-ticketed event. 

Does the law school restrict the number of student guests at the commencement ceremony?

  • No. Seats are available on a first come, first served basis. 

Are tickets required for admission to the Law School commencement?

  • No

Is there a dress code for family and guests who attend the Law School commencement?

  • We encourage guests to dress appropriately for the occasion and the weather. 

What time do the doors open to guests at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse for guests?

  • 11 a.m. and doors will not be open before 11:00 a.m. regardless of weather conditions.

What is the deadline to appeal a grade?

  • For students who are graduating at the end of the semester for the course in which they are filing a grade appeal, all grade appeals must be filed before Graduation. This applies to all graduating students including, but not limited to, 3+3 students, 3L students, and LLM students.

Who can attend the Law School reception following the ceremony?

  • Law School graduates and their guests.
