Sports Law Advisory Board Member: Emma Barnett

CLEAR
Senior Vice President, Corporate & Securities

Emma Barnett joined CLEAR (NYSE: YOU) as Senior Vice President, Corporate & Securities, in October 2021.  Emma supports CLEAR’s public company function, including NYSE/SEC compliance, public disclosure, and Board/Committee and general governance-related matters.  Prior to joining CLEAR, Emma had various roles with the Madison Square Garden family of companies.  She originally joined The Madison Square Garden Company (NYSE: MSG) in December 2015 following the spin-off of its media segment into a separate standalone public company, MSG Networks Inc. (NYSE: MSGN).  In her role, she advised management and executives of both companies on corporate matters, including public company disclosure requirements, corporate governance, related party transactions and NYSE requirements/compliance.  In April 2020, the company completed another spin-off, separating its entertainment and sports segments into two new companies: Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. (NYSE: MSGE) and Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (NYSE: MSGS).  Then, in July 2021, Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. merged with MSG Networks Inc.  Emma took a lead role in these transactions and continued to advise Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. on SEC/NYSE, treasury, governance and other corporate matters.  She began her career as an associate at White & Case LLP, where she predominantly focused on advising both U.S. and non-U.S. issuers in registered and exempt capital markets transactions, including IPOs, shelf registration statements, Chapter 11 restructurings, and a variety of other financing transactions. Her practice also included advising underwriters on transactions.  Emma received her B.A. from Tulane University (’07) and a J.D. from Tulane Law School (Sports Law, ’12).  It was during her time at Tulane Law School that she first discovered her interest in the “sports law” world, and was a member of the Sports Law Society, Senior Notes & Comments Editor of The Sports Lawyers Journal, a Legal Intern for the New Orleans Pelicans (at the time, known as the New Orleans Hornets), and a Graduate Assistant for former New Orleans City councilman Arnie Fielkow’s undergraduate class, “Law & Practices of Sports Business Management.”
