Sports Law Advisory Board Member: Mary Fitzgerald

Mary Fitzgerald

Mary has served as a nonprofit executive in Philadelphia for over 18 years with a passion for supporting youth and other vulnerable populations through emphasis on physical and mental wellness. Mary’s extensive background in business and nonprofit leadership delivers a unique expertise to organizations through an emphasis on strategic planning, capacity building, organizational transformation and sustainability. 

Mary was appointed chief executive officer of Eluna, formerly The Moyer Foundation started by former MLB Pitcher Jamie Moyer, in July 2015 with a mission to support children and families impacted by grief or addiction. She leads the renowned human services organization focused on prevention though delivery of its award-winning camp programs, Camp Erin, the largest network of youth bereavement camps for youth ages 6-17, Camp Mariposa, a national addiction and mentoring program for youth ages 9-17, the Eluna Resource Center which offers personalized support and a highly curated support database, and Team Jesse which supports youth of military families impacted by grief or addiction. Prior to entering the nonprofit sector, Mary worked in the professional sports industry for FOX and the National Football League and served as COO of Pop Warner Football. 

Mary holds membership on the following boards: AmerisourceBergen Foundation’s Advisory Committee, The Tulane Sports Law Advisory Committee, and St. Joseph’s University School of Public Health Advisory Board. She has served as Chair of the NFL’s Research and Education Foundation, Kellogg’s Youth Sports Collaborative and as a mentor for the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. 

Mary is an experienced public speaker having appeared on several media outlets such as CBS, ABC, Comcast Newsmakers, Executive Leaders Radio, iHeart Radio, on various podcasts and in media such as medium.com, Philly Sports Network and The Philadelphia Inquirier, and has spoken at various business events such as the Mutual Fund Industry Awards, Women in Lodging, PoWer of Professional Women, and Women to Watch. 

She has taught marketing as an adjunct professor at Albion College’s Philadelphia campus and received a JD/MBA from Tulane University, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of The Sports Lawyers Journal and President of the Sports Law Society. Her publications include “The Court of Arbitration for Sport: Doping and Due Process During the Olympics” and “Sports Law.” 

At home Mary volunteers as a board member, team manager and assistant coach for her local sports club, as Secretary of her parish’s St. Vincent de Paul chapter and has taught Sunday school at OMC Parish and as a volunteer for AIM Academy. She is an avid reader, runner and yoga practitioner who enjoys traveling and hiking with her two and four-legged family members and still roots for all her favorite NY teams.
