For our LLM and SJD programs, we do require English proficiency testing if the language of instruction of your first law degree was not English. Applicants who must complete English proficiency testing should submit the TOEFL internet-based test (iBT) or the Academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Candidates who are current students or graduates of Tulane international partner institutions may inquire about alternative testing options in lieu of the TOEFL or IELTS.
Most successful applicants for admission to Tulane Law degree or exchange programs present overall scores of 5 or higher on the TOEFL iBT or 7.0 or higher on the IELTS. Applicants with scores of 4.5 on the TOEFL iBT or 6.5 on the IELTS will also receive strong consideration, with particular attention to section subscores.
Tulane Law School generally will not consider applicants who receive a score below 4 on any TOEFL iBT section or below 6.0 on any IELTS section, irrespective of overall score.
