Humzah Q. Yazdani is a Senior Research Fellow of the Tulane Energy Law & Policy Center and serves on the Center's Global Research Council.  He co-leads the Center's research and education program focused on global LNG Project Development and LNG Markets.  Humzah is a Senior Associate at the law firm, Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP where he focuses on complex transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors.  With 13 years of experience spanning wind, solar, battery storage, CCUS, hydrogen, LNG and traditional oil and gas, Humzah brings a multidisciplinary understanding of the energy sector and the commercial realities that drive it.  His practice includes advising private equity sponsors, strategic investors, and developers on joint ventures, project developers on joint ventures, project development, acquisitions, and divestitures across North America and in international markets.  

Prior to joining Weil, Humzah was an associate at another global law firm where he worked on a similarly broad range of energy and infrastructure projects, including upstream and downstream oil and gas and LNG projects.  Humzah has substantial experience in cross-border LNG project development and project finance, including serving as an inhouse counsel and then Manager (Legal) for Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), a government-backed entity established to operationalize Pakistan's LNG value chain.  At Pakistan LNG, Humzah advised on legal, commercial, and national policy aspects of LNG supply chains, the development of regasification facilities and infrastructure, the establishment of third-party access frameworks and the commercialization of RLNG.

Humzah has authored or co-authored numerous articles on energy policy and project development in various publications, including World Economic Forum, Texas Environmental Law Journal, Law 360,  and other academic and industry publications.  

Humzah was named a 2024 "Emerging Star" by the Institute for Energy Law and in 2025, was awarded the 'Rising Star" Award by the South Asian Bar Association, Houston.  He previously served as the 2019-20 MD Anderson Research Fellow at the Institute for Transnational Law, where his research focused on carbon pricing and the role of ancillary policies in curbing GHG emissions.  Additionally, in 2019-20, Humzah completed his Master of Laws (L.L.M.) degree in Global Energy and Environmental Law at the University of Texas School of Law on a Fulbright scholarship awarded by the U.S. Department of State.  In 2020, Humzah was selected by the World Economic Forum as one the 50 Global Shapers worldwide to participate in the Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

In addition to his U.S. legal training, Humzah earned his LL.B. from the University of London in 2011 and completed the Bar Professional Training Course at BPP Law School in London. He was called to the Bar at the Honorable Society of Lincoln's Inn in 2012 and has since practiced commercial and transactional law in Pakistan, the Middle East, and the United States with a particular focus on the energy sector.
