Jeremy R. Farr serves on the Advisory Board of the Center and as Vice Chair of the Global Research Council.
Mr. Farr is a retired partner and former practice area leader (Energy, Infrastructure, and Resources practice) at the global law firm K&L Gates LLP, having practiced previously with a leading international maritime and offshore energy and insurance firm, based in London. He continues to provide legal, strategic and commercial insight to K&L Gates and other clients as an independent consultant to the energy, maritime and associated engineering and construction industries as well as mentoring young lawyers.
During his 40 years as an English lawyer advising the global energy and maritime industries, he has focused his practice on offshore oil and gas services, engineering and construction of floating energy assets and fixed and floating energy infrastructure and facilities, including offshore windfarms, onshore infrastructure, and shipping. He drafts and negotiates front-end contracts and charterparties, supports project execution, and handles dispute resolution.
Mr. Farr is experienced in all aspects of international dispute resolution having handled and advised on commercial disputes under Civil and Common law in many jurisdictions and all regions of the world. He is responsible for notable precedent decisions from English Courts on key contractual risk issues, often cited in textbooks. He is a highly experienced arbitration practitioner under ICC, LCIA, LMAA, DIAC, SIAC, UNCITRAL and other Rules as well as in ad hoc proceedings. He has a strong track record of successful mediations.
Mr. Farr has authored or contributed to several publications, notably Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims 4th Edition, Griggs, Williams, Farr (Informa Law 2005), Corporate Liability: Work Related Deaths and Criminal Prosecutions – Forlin (LexisNexis 2003), Dispute Resolution in the Energy Sector: A Practitioner’s Handbook – King (Globe Law and Business 2012). He is also a frequent speaker and moderator on panels focused on energy and disputes in the UK, USA, APAC and the Middle East.
He was educated in the United Kingdom and holds a BSc Hons in Russian and Soviet Studies with Law gained in 1984 from University of Surrey. He qualified at the College of Law, Guildford with 1st class honours in 1985.
