Law Alumnus Chris Ralston (L’99) receives ABA’s John Minor Wisdom Award

Chris Ralston, a prominent New Orleans attorney and Tulane Law School alumnus, has been named the recipient of the American Bar Association’s 2026 John Minor Wisdom Award, a national honor recognizing lawyers who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and demonstrated a deep commitment to public service.

Ralston (L’99), Managing Partner of the New Orleans office of Spencer Fane, has built a distinguished legal career spanning decades, earning a reputation for excellence in complex litigation and appellate advocacy.  He specializes in antitrust law, business torts, intellectual property litigation, contract disputes, and tax and securities litigation. Known for his thoughtful approach and deep knowledge of the law, he has handled high-stakes cases across a range of industries, representing clients in matters that have helped shape legal standards and practices. 

Throughout his career, Ralston has also been a dedicated leader within the legal profession. He has been actively involved in bar associations and professional organizations, contributing to efforts aimed at improving the administration of justice and strengthening the rule of law. He has received the President’s Award from the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Louisiana Bar Foundation and the New Orleans Bar Association. Ralston also received the Federal Bar Association’s Chapter President Award from alumna and Judge Sarah Vance when she was president of the New Orleans Federal Bar Chapter. 

His commitment to mentorship has been particularly notable at Tulane, as he has guided and mentored students and early-career law alumni, helping to foster the next generation of legal leaders. Throughout, he has remained deeply engaged with Tulane Law School and the broader university community. He has served on the Law School’s Dean’s Advisory Board, where he has provided valuable counsel on strategic initiatives, academic programming and alumni engagement. His leadership has also extended to the university at large through his service as president of the Tulane Alumni Association, where he worked to strengthen connections among alumni and enhance support for the institution.

Tulane Law School Dean Marcilynn Burke praised Ralston’s achievements and his enduring impact on the school.

The John Minor Wisdom Award, named for the late federal appellate judge renowned for his role in advancing civil rights, is one of the ABA’s highest honors. It recognizes attorneys whose careers embody integrity, professional excellence and a commitment to improving the legal system. Ralston’s selection reflects both his legal accomplishments and his broader contributions to the profession.
