Louisiana scoundrels jazz up civil law study

February 03, 2017 10:25 AM

Some 200 Tulane University Law School students and faculty turned out Jan. 27 for Professor Vernon Palmer’s “Corruption Tour,” sponsored by the Civil Law Society.

The annual event starts at the majestic Roosevelt hotel in New Orleans Central Business District, where Gov. Huey P. Long supposedly kept a box for bribes.

Weaving history lessons with tales about scoundrels, pirates, architecture and New Orleans culture, Palmer (L '65) leads a journey through the French Quarter and along Bourbon Street that’s only possible with a scholar as steeped as he is in Louisiana’s lineage and legends.
