Palmer is First Lecturer of NO Bar's Tricentennial Events

Tulane Law Professor Vernon Palmer will address the New Orleans Bar Association at the opening its year-long Tricentennial Celebration Jan. 17 with a presentation on the legal history of Louisiana.

Titled “A Tricentennial Retrospective:  The Unique Legacy of Louisiana Legal History,” Palmer is the opening lecturer of the Bar's Tricentennial celebrations, and will speak from 4 to 5 p.m. at the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana, 500 Poydras Street, 5th floor.

Palmer (L'65) is the Thomas Pickles Professor of Law at Tulane and is co-director of the Eason Weinmann Center for International and Comparative Law. His lecture will address a panoramic view of Louisiana’s civil law heritage, its eclectic legal system influenced by the Spanish and French, its historical development and most interesting features from 18th century beginnings to present day.

 Registration is required. Tulane students may attend the lecture free, and a shuttle will be available, leaving the law school at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17.
