Professor Mateusz Grochowski Named 2026 Gordon Gamm Faculty Scholar
Professor Mateusz Grochowski, Associate Professor of Law, has been named Tulane Law School’s Gordon Gamm Faculty Scholar for 2026. The Gordon J. Gamm Comparative Law Endowed Fund, founded in 2014 by alumnus Gordon Gamm (L’70) and his wife, Grace Gamm, supports scholarship that advances justice through comparative and transnational legal inquiry and provides resources for research, public engagement, and the annual Gamm Comparative Law and Justice Symposium.
A comparativist and private law scholar, Professor Grochowski studies transnational consumer and contract law in the digital economy, focusing on how global platforms like Amazon, eBay, Airbnb, and Uber increasingly act as de facto lawmakers. His career includes research and fellowship roles at institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, Yale Law School, NYU School of Law, and the European University Institute.
“We are thrilled to recognize Professor Grochowski as the Gordon Gamm Faculty Scholar,” said law Dean Marcilynn Burke. “His innovative, internationally engaged scholarship embodies the very spirit of the Gamm endowment.”
As the Gordon Gamm Faculty Scholar, he will pursue a project on “Transnational Consumer Law in the Digital Era” and organize the 2026 Gamm Comparative Law and Justice Symposium, which will convene international experts to examine platform-based consumer protection and how public authorities can respond to these emerging private legal systems.
Professor Maybell Romero, Associate Dean for Faculty Research and Programs, praised the appointment. “Professor Grochowski’s selection reflects not only his outstanding individual record as a comparative private law scholar,” she said, “but also Tulane’s own longstanding strengths in civil and comparative law.”
