Tulane Law Celebrates Connection and Tradition at Wave Weekend

Tulane Law alumni, students, faculty, and friends returned to campus for Wave Weekend 2025, celebrating reunion milestones, reconnecting with classmates, and revisiting the place where so many of their legal careers began.

The two-day celebration featured a full lineup of events, ranging from panels and building tours to student competitions and reunion parties.

Festivities began Friday morning in the Weinmann Hall West Courtyard, where guests gathered for Raise a Glass to Your Class. Law Dean Marcilynn Burke gave an update on the law school, and thanked alumni from the reunion classes for raising almost $700,000 for law school programs. She then celebrated them with a toast.

“This remarkable generosity will have an immediate and profound impact on the students following in your footsteps,” Burke told attendees during the toast. “So here’s to 30 years of Weinmann Hall, and the generations of lawyers it has launched.  Here’s to our faculty and students, for their brilliance, their drive, and their heart.  And here’s to you, our alumni, who carry the Tulane Law spirit wherever you go!”

One of the weekend’s standout sessions was the Spotlight Speaker Series, “A New Era in Entertainment: Tackling Today’s Legal Issues in Hollywood and Beyond.” The panel featured industry leaders David Boyle (L’90), Beverley Gordon (L’94), and Jason Sloane, and was moderated by Eric Blevins (L’11). The panelists shared their experiences with the pressing legal and business issues in today’s television and film world.

The energy continued with the championship round of the Tulane Entertainment Negotiation Competition (TENC). Now in its second year, the student-led competition has already become one of the nation’s premier events focused on real-world dealmaking in entertainment law. This year’s final round featured teams from Suffolk University Law School and Loyola Law School, who negotiated a hypothetical agreement between Morgan Freeman and OpenAI regarding the use of Freeman’s voice in an AI system. After a dynamic and well-argued session, the team from Suffolk University Law School earned first-place honors.

Between events, alumni were encouraged to take a tour of John Giffen Weinmann Hall, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Led by current students, the tours offered a glimpse into daily life at Tulane Law today and featured a curated exhibit celebrating the building’s three decades as home to the law school.

That evening, alumni gathered at The Josephine for the Law Reunion Party, reconnecting with classmates over food, music, and plenty of Tulane spirit.

Saturday brought Green Wave pride to the forefront with the Law Alumni Homecoming Tailgate on Newcomb Quad, where alumni, families, and friends gathered for food, music, and laughter before cheering on the Green Wave in their 35-24 win against Florida Atlantic University.

The weekend concluded with a special 50th Reunion Celebration for the Class of 1975 at Ralph’s on the Park, where classmates enjoyed cocktails, dinner, and sweeping views of City Park while reminiscing about their days at Tulane Law.

Wave Weekend once again highlighted the energy and spirit of the Tulane Law community. From meaningful discussions to moments of reunion, the celebration underscored the impact of those who continue to move the law school forward.
