Tulane Law Professor Feibelman Receives University Award for Faculty Mentorship
Tulane University has named Professor Adam Feibelman, the Sumter Davis Marks Professor of Law and director of The Murphy Institute Center for Law and the Economy, as the 2026 recipient of the Oliver Fund Award for Excellence in Faculty Mentoring, one of the institution’s highest honors.
The award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to mentoring colleagues and fostering their professional growth. Feibelman will be honored during Tulane’s Unified Commencement Ceremony on May 16, 2026, at the Caesars Superdome.
Feibelman is widely regarded for his leadership in legal scholarship, particularly in the areas of financial regulation, sovereign debt and international economic law. In addition to his academic contributions, colleagues say his mentorship has had a lasting impact on the Law School and the broader legal academy.
“Through his mentorship, Adam has helped define what it means to build a truly supportive and intellectually vibrant academic community,” said law Dean Marcilynn Burke. “He is intentional, inclusive and unwavering in his commitment to others’ success. This award recognizes not only his excellence, but the enduring legacy he is creating through the people he mentors.”
Over the course of his career, Feibelman has guided junior faculty, fellows and visiting scholars through key stages of academic development. He has played a central role in programs such as the Forrester Fellowship and The Murphy Visiting Assistant Professorship in Law, both of which have helped launch academic careers at institutions across the country.
Mentees consistently describe Feibelman as a thoughtful and strategic advisor who supports both scholarship and teaching while helping demystify the norms of academic success. His approach emphasizes creating pathways for others to thrive within the legal academy.
Colleagues also note his commitment to building a more inclusive academic community. Feibelman has been intentional in supporting scholars from underrepresented backgrounds and ensuring they have access to mentorship and professional opportunities.
The Oliver Fund Award is part of a suite of university-wide honors recognizing excellence in teaching and mentorship. Recipients are nominated by members of the Tulane community and selected by a committee of past award winners.
