Tulane Law Student Leads in National Music Industry Program
Tulane Law student Francesqa Kaggwa (3L) is hitting all the right notes, both in law and in music.
Recently selected as the Lead GrammyU Ambassador for the Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy, Kaggwa joins a network of just 15 student leaders representing 12 chapters nationwide.
GrammyU is a national program of the Recording Academy created to support and mentor college students pursuing careers in music and entertainment. Through events, workshops, and networking opportunities, GrammyU connects aspiring professionals with established artists, producers, executives, and entertainment attorneys across the industry.
In her role, Kaggwa works alongside the chapter’s GrammyU Representative to help connect students with industry professionals through innovative programming. That includes organizing GrammyU SoundChecks: exclusive, behind-the-scenes experiences where student members attend artist rehearsals and conduct post-soundcheck interviews with performers and their teams.
Kaggwa’s leadership doesn’t stop there. She is also the only student and GrammyU representative serving on any Recording Academy Chapter Advocacy Committee nationwide. Through her work with the Memphis Chapter Advocacy Committee, she collaborates with recording artists, entertainment attorneys, and industry executives to develop policies and legislative initiatives that protect and advance the rights of creators.
Balancing her dual passions for law and music, Kaggwa also serves as Vice-President of Tulane’s Entertainment and Art Law Society (TEALS) and Co-Director of the recent Tulane Entertainment Negotiation Competition (TENC), which had an amazing success in its second year. In every role, she’s dedicated to creating opportunities for emerging artists and future entertainment lawyers alike.
“I joined GrammyU after a mentor encouraged me to look into the program and shared how impactful it had been for them,” Kaggwa said. “Once I learned more, I realized how valuable the opportunities are and how committed GrammyU is to supporting future artists and industry professionals. Being part of the program has shown me how important community and mentorship are in this field, and I am excited to keep growing, connecting, and finding new ways to contribute to the industry.”
Through her advocacy and leadership, Kaggwa is helping shape the future of music and inspiring the next generation of creators and legal minds along the way.
