Women’s Prison Project Honored as Ally of the Year

The Women’s Prison Project (WPP), directed by Professor Becki Kondkar in collaboration with Professor Stas Moroz, was honored with the “Ally of the Year” Award by the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (LCADV) at their annual Celebration of Excellence in Baton Rouge.

This award recognizes individuals and organizations that have gone above and beyond in their efforts to end domestic violence and support survivors across communities.

“The recognition of the WPP reflects the extraordinary dedication of our faculty, students, and staff—with special appreciation for Professor Moroz’s leadership in advancing this partnership with LCADV,” said Tulane Law Dean Marcilynn Burke. “Their work exemplifies the mission and values of Tulane Law School, and we are proud to celebrate this important achievement.”

Launched in 2019, the WPP is a collaboration between Tulane's Domestic Violence and Criminal Justice Clinics. Over the years, its faculty, students, and staff have won freedom for more than a dozen women serving long or life sentences and provided critical advocacy for survivors of abuse and trafficking.

At the same time, Tulane Law students work with clinical faculty to gain hands-on legal training, practicing a wide range of lawyering skills such as representing clients in post-conviction, parole and clemency proceedings, among other efforts.
