From the Director: Tulane Law Online is educating the next trailblazers

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Tulane Law Online programs newsletter!

In the years since we launched our first online program at the law school, we have been overwhelmed by the experience – both by the interest from those who want to learn more about the law to position themselves in their industries to the amazing students we have taught and grown to know along the way. In just a short time, we have conferred Master’s degrees upon hundreds of students from around the country, as well as issued certificates to those who just needed a little extra in their educational portfolio.

I am constantly reminded of what makes Tulane Law's Online Programs different. It is the people in our programs and our ability to quickly respond to changing times. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck the nation, we mobilized within weeks to provide short webinars with up-to-date information every Human Resources leader needed to know.  With labor and employment law being an integral part of every institution, our Master’s of Jurisprudence in Labor and Employment Law has served hundreds of our graduates whose companies now were ready for the changing regulatory and legal climate. As changes in Title IX legislation affected schools at all levels, our certificate programs helped administrators navigate that legal landscape effectively. More recently, as energy and environmental industries saw a need for legal expertise with climate change and rising regulatory concerns, our two new Master’s programs – one in Energy Law and the other in Environmental Law – are at the forefront of helping the next generation of trailblazers to lead.

Of course, we could not do what we do without our amazing faculty, all of whom are highly experienced and successful labor lawyers and/or law school professors, and who are committed to informing staying current on developments so that our students are some of the best prepared in their industries. In this edition, you will learn about Prof. Mark Davis, a global leader water law and policy and a scholar who is routinely a voice in the environmental law issues. Mark, who directs Tulane’s Center for Environmental Law, teaches Introduction to Environmental Law.

This newsletter will also introduce you to alumni, like Alexandra Torres Rodriguez, Miami-based HR consultant with 15 years experience whose entire business was reshaped by COVID-19.  Her MJ in Labor and Employment Law has helped her forge ahead prepared.  And there are so many others who are proud to recount the positive impact of their Tulane degree.

So stay with us as we guide you in this journey – meeting some of the most amazing students and educators and learning about how Tulane’s Online Programs are leading change in the world. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if we can help you in your next career journey.

As always best wishes for continued success.
