From the Director: 30 looks good on the Tulane Sports Law Program

I hope this note finds you and your family well.  We are very excited to share that 2023 will mark the 30th Anniversary of the Tulane Sports Law Program!  The Program, founded by legendary former Tulane Professor Gary Roberts, was the first of its kind. Today, thanks to our network of friends and alumni, it is bigger and better than ever.  We are in the early stages of planning a 30th-anniversary celebration on campus in Fall 2023, and we hope you’ll all be able to return to New Orleans to join us.  We’ll provide more details about the celebration over the coming months.

Here are some of the highlights of the last few months. We’ve harnessed the power of our extraordinary alumni network by establishing a Tulane Sports Law Alumni Advisory Board, which has been working to help us chart a path for the future and ensure that Tulane remains at the forefront of the sports industry.  We were thrilled to have our first in-person meeting of the Advisory Board in November 2022, where we discussed the present and future of the Program.  The Board also met with current Sports Law Society students, who shared their plans and vision as well.  It was a great moment for the Program to connect our current and former students.

Through our partnership with the Tulane Center for Sport, we have renewed our focus on cutting-edge sports education throughout the Tulane community.  The Center conducted its second annual Sports Analytics Series throughout October at the law school— a crash course on the data analytics across the sports industry.  We also hosted a panel on the bidding process for major sports events, such as the Super Bowl and Final Fours.  Both events were well-attended by not only our law students, but also Tulane undergraduate and other graduate students.

Our students have also been hard at work preparing for our marquis events in the spring.  Our 6th annual Tulane Women in Sports Law Symposium is fast approaching (Jan. 27-28, 2023 on campus, we’d love to see you there!), along with our four Sports Law Competitions returning in-person, and many other sports law student activities.  We’re also excited to host our annual Entertainment and Sports Law Conference at Tulane Law School on March 3-4, 2023.

Thank you all for your continued interest in our Program and for your support of our students.  I look forward to working with you in 2023 and celebrating all the milestones we’ve achieved together to this point.

Best,

Gabe Feldman
