The Tulane Center for Sport and the student-run Sports Law Society were proud to co-host a star panel featuring some of the top leaders in college sports April 4 — the day of the NCAA Men’s college basketball championship game, which took place in New Orleans.
The panel was held at Tulane Law School, free of charge, and open to the public, with many law students and community members in attendance. Speaking to the group were:
- Bob Bowlsby, Commissioner, Big 12 Conference
- Troy Dannen, Athletic Director, Tulane University
- Amy Folan, Athletic Director, Central Michigan University
- Cole Gahagan, President & CEO, Learfield
- Kevin Lennon, Vice President of Division I, NCAA
- Craig Robinson, Executive Director, National Association of Basketball Coaches
Opening remarks were provided by Dean of the Law School, David Meyer; the Center for Sport’s Director of Education, Tess Belt; and the President of the Sports Law Society, third-year law student Schuyler Corbin.
They turned over the proceedings to Professor Gabe Feldman, Tulane Law’s Sher Garner Professor of Sports Law and Director of the Sports Law Program, as well as co-Director of the Center for Sport, who moderated the panel and guided a lively discussion about the challenges and opportunities facing college sports, including Name, Image, and Likeness and more.
The panel followed a successful fall semester for the Sports Law Society’s Speaker Series, with the student group hosting a virtual panel on sports agents in November 2021 featuring Lauri Eberhart (Founding Member of Apollo Sports & Entertainment Law Group), Tay Hawker (President- Hawker Family Sports & Entertainment), Bynum Jaeger (Vice President at Harlan Sports Management), Quentin Walker (Vice President of Coaching at Harlan Sports Management), and Jonathan Wall (NBPA Certified Agent at the Familie).
