Guiguo Wang

Guiguo Wang is a world-renowned scholar on international economic law and an entrepreneurial leader in legal education who joined the Tulane law faculty in 2014 and was named the Eason-Weinmann Chair of International and Comparative Law. In 2021, Professor Wang retired from Tulane University and was appointed Professor Emeritus.

In 2013, Wang completed a highly effective six-year tenure as dean at City University of Hong Kong, where he also held the Chair in Chinese and Comparative Law and directed the Centre for Judicial Education and Research. He also is a titular member of the International Academy of Comparative Law, Country Advisor to LexisNexis Butterworths Asia and a Distinguished Professor of Law at Hunan Normal University School of Law in Changsha, China.

He delivered the Eason-Weinmann Lecture at Tulane in 2012.

When Wang received his JSD from Yale Law School in 1984, he was the first person from mainland China since 1949 to do so. He was the first Chinese recipient of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research fellowship, through which he took part in seminars at the International Court of Justice and studied at The Hague Academy of International Law, the U.N. legal affairs office and the World Bank legal department. He also has been an arbitrator for more than 20 years and is chairman of the Hong Kong WTO Research Institute.

Wang has published more than 20 books and more than 100 chapters and articles, in English and Chinese, in journals around the world. His “International Trade Order” (1987) published by Law Press is one of the earliest treatises dealing with GATT issues in China.
