Alumna to Lead Tulane Law International Programs

Maria Landry, an alumna and experienced academic administrator with deep ties to Tulane Law School, has been named Assistant Dean for International and Graduate Programs, Dean Marcilynn Burke announced.

The appointment brings Landry back to a community she knows from multiple perspectives, first as an international graduate student and later as an administrator who spent nearly a decade supporting Tulane Law’s graduate and international programs.

“We are delighted to welcome Maria back to Tulane Law,” Burke said. “She knows our international programs from so many perspectives and brings a genuine commitment to the students, faculty, and staff who make those programs so special. Maria’s history with Tulane, her deep ties to the community, and the warmth she brings make her return feel like a true homecoming."

Landry steps into the role formerly held by Professor Herb Larson, who has served for almost 20 years as the Executive Director of International and Graduate Programs. Since 2007, Larson grew and expanded international programs, including creating pathways for exchange students to enter the laws school's LL.M program. A former assistant federal public defender, he will continue teaching at Tulane Law and managing Tulane’s successful abroad program in Siena, Italy.

Landry first came to Tulane Law as an LL.M. student, having just received her law degree from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Her experience as an international student at Tulane gave her firsthand insight into the academic, professional and personal needs of international law students and will shape her approach to advising and program leadership.

After earning her LL.M. from Tulane Law in 2010, Landry returned to the law school as an employee, beginning what would become nearly a decade of work with Larson in Tulane’s international and graduate programs. She first served as assistant director of international legal programs and later became director of international admissions. Her work at the law school included graduate recruitment and admissions, academic advising, international student support and the administration of international initiatives. She also worked closely with faculty, visiting professors, alumni, university partners and institutions around the world.

During her previous tenure, Landry developed great familiarity with many of the programs she will now help lead, including Tulane Law’s exchange partnerships, summer abroad offerings, graduate admissions and international academic advising. She also gained experience collaborating with faculty committees and university partners while building institutional knowledge of Tulane Law’s international programs.

Landry returns to Tulane after most recently serving as Director of Admissions at St. George’s Episcopal School in New Orleans. As a member of the school’s leadership team, she worked closely with faculty, administrators, families and the Board to support enrollment and retention as well as the broader student experience. That role expanded her experience in admissions and enrollment management while keeping student support at the center of her work.

Her return to Tulane Law represents a homecoming to an institution that has been a significant part of both her education and professional career, Landry said.

“My professional path has been closely tied to Tulane Law for many years,” she said, adding that she is looking forward to once again supporting the law school’s international and graduate students.
