Externship-Judicial

The Judicial Externship is an experiential learning course providing legal education and skills development in judicial chambers. Students work and learn in a variety of judicial settings: state courts at the trial, appellate and supreme court levels, as well as federal courts, including the EDLA and the 5th Circuit. The Judicial Externship allows students to gain expertise in professional skills and problem-solving; study professionalism and the judicial ethical requirements; examine the role of the judiciary in the delivery of justice and ensuring justice for all; explore career interests; and build a professional network. Students are required to work a minimum of 135 hours per semester at their field placements. This is a year-long course, and contains 6 credits of pass/C/fail fieldwork credit, as well as 1 credit of the graded seminar in the Fall only: all 7 credits are experiential.
