New Tulane Research, Innovation and Creativity Summit celebrates university’s diverse scholarly work

Tulane’s interdisciplinary research and cross-campus collaborations have led to groundbreaking discoveries that have made lasting impacts across the region, nation and globe. To highlight the breadth of this work, the Office of Research will host the inaugural Tulane Research, Innovation and Creativity Summit (TRICS).

The summit will take place Wednesday, March 1, and Thursday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Jung Hotel (1500 Canal St.) and at locations on the downtown and uptown campuses. The full schedule can be found on the TRICS webpage here: https://research.tulane.edu/content/trics

“The Health Sciences Research Days have been, for years, one of the most popular research events at Tulane University but were mostly limited to biomedical sciences. This year we got ‘greedy’ and wanted to extend this fantastic opportunity to all schools and areas of innovation and creativity of our great institution,” said Dr. Giovanni Piedimonte, vice president for research at Tulane and professor of medicine in the departments of Pediatrics and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the School of Medicine.

“We believe a major strength of Tulane is the breadth of achievements across virtually any form of scholarly activity and the eagerness of experts in the most diverse areas to converge their talents toward solving complex problems. Indeed, TRICS was created to celebrate and promote our excellence and diversity!”

TRICS, which replaces Health Sciences Research Days and School of Science and Engineering Research Days, will feature a plethora of presentations, lectures and panel discussions. The summit will also showcase more than 350 poster displays, including research presentations by faculty, trainees and graduate and undergraduate students from the schools of Medicine, Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Science and Engineering, Social Work, and the Tulane National Primate Research Center. Work from the schools of Liberal Arts, Architecture and Professional Advancement will also be highlighted.

Several faculty members from the School of Law will participate in presentations covering a range of topics, such as immigration rights, Constitutional law, NFTs, maritime law, intimate partner violence law and more. Faculty from the A. B. Freeman School of Business will present on entrepreneurship and innovation. Jill Daniel, Gary P. Dohanich Professor in Brain Science and psychology professor at the School of Science and Engineering, will present the Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health Lecture on “Estrogens, Memory, and the Aging Brain.” And Kimberly Gramm, David and Marion Mussafer Chief Innovation and Entrepreneurship Officer of the Tulane Innovation Institute, will present the Vice President for Research Distinguished Lecture on “Emerging Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: NOLA’s Opportunity, A Perspective.”

Additionally, staff from nearly 20 Tulane offices and units, including the Tulane Libraries, Tulane Cancer Center, Office of Research Proposal Development, will attend to offer resources and answer questions pertaining to conducting research.  

The entire Tulane community is encouraged to attend. Tulane Shuttles and Transportation’s Diboll Green Line and Commons Green Line will provide extra stops in front of the Jung Hotel throughout their schedule. A TRICS shuttle will also conduct round trips to and from the Jung Hotel 30 minutes before the start of each poster session and 30 minutes after each session ends.
