Tulane Law professors sweep local honors

The New Orleans CityBusiness announced its 2023 class of Leaders in Law and Tulane Law School swept the educators category with three out of three education leaders being Tulane Law faculty members. 

Professors Ann Lipton, Lauren Godshall, and Tonya Jupiter all received the local honor and joined an esteemed group of current Tulane Law faculty members who have previously won the award.

“Having Professors Lipton, Godshall, and Jupiter recognized for this award highlights the strength of the Tulane Law School faculty at the local level,” said Interim Dean Sally Richardson, a 2021 recipient of the award. “Our faculty are making waves locally, nationally, and internationally, which is part of what makes Tulane Law such a great place to be right now.” 

Professor Ann Lipton, the Michael M. Fleishman Associate Professor in Business Law and Entrepreneurship and Associate Dean for Faculty Research is a leading scholar in the areas of corporate governance, the relationships between corporations and investors, and the role of corporations in society. In 2022, Professor Lipton cemented herself as the national leading legal expert in the Elon Musk-Twitter saga. A classroom favorite, Professor Lipton received the 2021 Felix Frankfurter Distinguished Teaching Award. 

Professor Lauren Godshall serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law in Tulane Law School’s Environmental Law Clinic. A regular contributor to the Louisiana Bar Journal, Professor Godshall has previously served as the chair of the Louisiana Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section as well as the New Orleans Bar Association’s Environmental Committee. 

Dean Tonya Jupiter is the Associate Dean for Experiential Learning and Public Interest Programs. In this capacity, Dean Jupiter oversees the full range of skills training, experiential, and public interest initiatives at Tulane Law School. She has played a vital leadership role in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the Tulane Law experiential programs and has solidified herself as a great classroom teacher. In 2021, Dean Jupiter was elected by the graduating class to receive the Monte Lemann Award for Distinguished Teaching. 

“One need look no further than these amazing women to see the great things happening at Tulane Law School.  From the classroom to the clinics to our externships, Tulane Law faculty are providing our students with a top-notch legal education and turning our students into the next generation of leaders in law,” said Dean Richardson. 

Professors Lipton, Godshall, and Jupiter join a long list of current Tulane Law faculty who have received the honor from New Orleans CityBusiness, including Interim Dean Richardson, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Stacy Seicshnaydre, Professors Lucia Blacksher Ranier, Mark Davis, Bob Force, Jancy Hoeffel, Oliver Houck, Becki Kondkar, Katherine Mattes, and Ron Scalise.
