Sports Law Advisory Board Member: Demeka Fields

Demeka Fields

Demeka Fields currently serves as Counsel – Global Sports Marketing and Data Privacy for New Balance. In her current role, Demeka supports the Global Sports Marketing Department and negotiates and drafts sponsorship and partnership deals with individual athletes and teams across various sports including international football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. She has served as lead attorney during negotiations of deals with athletes including basketball star Jamal Murray and tennis player Genie Bouchard and teams including European Football club AS Roma. In addition, Demeka assists with managing company relationships with key stakeholders including the New York Road Runners organization, operators of the New York City Marathon. Demeka also helps to maintain the company’s compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other data privacy regulations. She also helps lead various diversity initiatives at New Balance, including the New Balance-UMass Boston Sports Leadership Internship Program and a partnership with Divine 9 organizations that will feature shoes, apparel and other avenues for the company to give back. Demeka also serves as Chair of Black Soles, one of New Balance’s first associate resource groups.  

Before joining New Balance, Demeka served as Associate Counsel for the Minnesota Vikings. Demeka is a highly sought-after speaker regarding sports, entertainment, and diversity, equity and inclusion, and she has been featured on Madamenoire’s Women to Know in Sports list, Essence.com, Black Sports Network’s Women in Sports Series and on the Thomson Reuters’ podcast Legal Current. A military child who has lived in cities across the country and the world, Demeka received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard University and her law degree from Tulane University’s School of Law.
