Externship-Public Interest

The Public Interest Externship is an experiential learning program providing legal education and skills development in real-life settings. This one semester externship is open to 2Ls as well as 3Ls. Students work and learn in public interest or nonprofit organizations in the metropolitan area to gain expertise in professional skills and problem-solving; study professionalism and ethical requirements; examine lawyers’ roles in the delivery of justice and ensuring justice for all; explore career interests; and provide service to the community. This is a one semester course open to a limited number of students. The Spring public interest externship consists of  3 credits of pass/C/fail fieldwork and 1 credit for the graded seminar; all 4 credits are experiential.
