Dean Griffin: Celebrating milestones in diversity this Black History Month
Dear Fellow Black Alumni:
Happy Black History Month! We have several events planned over the next few weeks. We kicked off our celebration by hosting Martinet’s annual Pathways & Pipelines to Success Program, which brings together black law students and attorneys from all over the state. The daylong program included panel discussions, networking, and interviews. Our BLSA chapter assisted with planning this event, and it was the first of a series of black history events planned by the organization.
Additional events include an imposter syndrome workshop, a reparations discussion with Prof. Robert Westley, a lunch with black faculty members, a community service project, and a networking mixer.
Last month BLSA competed in the Southwest Regional BLSA Mock Trial Competition where they placed third. The team will now advance to the National BLSA Mock Trial Competition, taking place next month in Cincinnati. Please join me in congratulating coach Jayde Encalade and team members Courtney Fontaine, Maya Rex, Shane Thomas, and Dominique Williams.
Thanks to those of you that continue to support the law school’s diversity initiatives, including the Waldrup-Crosby scholarship fund. First year JD/MBA student Caleb Eugene is the 2019-2020 Waldrup-Crosby scholarship recipient. Caleb is from Jennings, Louisiana, and wants to stay in Louisiana upon graduating. Caleb received his bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from McNeese State University and is interested in corporate law.
If you would like to connect with Caleb and other diverse law students, please consider registering for our Spring On-Campus Interviews. Registration is currently open, and interviews start next month. If you are not local, you can sign up to interview via video conference/Skype. If you aren’t able to commit to an interview schedule you can register to receive a resume packet instead.
Additionally, we’ll be distributing resume books at our Diversity Networking Reception on March 10 in New Orleans.
Please contact me at lagriffin@tulane.edu if you’re interested, and thanks again for your continued support!
Best wishes,
Lezlie Griffin
