Celebrating Constitution Day at Tulane Law School

On Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, the Tulane Law School will celebrate Constitution Day, a day observed annually in honor of the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution. In recognition of Constitution Day, the Law School will hold a panel presentation examining key issues before the U.S. Supreme Court during the upcoming October 2017 term. Featured presenters include Catherine Hancock, Geoffrey C. Bible & Murray H. Bring Professor of Constitutional Law, and Keith Werhan, Ashton Phelps Chair of Constitutional Law. Among issues to be considered are free speech and free exercise exemptions from public accommodation laws (Masterpiece Cake Shop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission), partisan gerrymandering (Gill v. Whitford), and challenges to the Administration’s executive order temporarily suspending entry of aliens abroad (Trump v. Int'l Refugee Assistance Project, Trump v. Hawaii).The presentation will begin at 4 p.m. in John Giffen Weinmann Hall, Room 257. The event is free and open to the public.It was on September 17, 1787 that 39 delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the U.S. Constitution, the most influential document in American history.  <
