Law Review Journal Honors Scholars, Peers in Annual Banquet

The Tulane Law Review Association held its annual banquet April 19, honoring some of the best legal writing among scholars, students and peers. <

Held at the Westin Hotel – Canal Place, the event brought some 200 students, faculty and alumni to the event which honors some of the best and brightest at Tulane Law. <

Receiving the Alumnus of the Year Award and offering the keynote was Cornell University Prof. John Barceló (BA ’63, L ’66), a leading scholar in international trade, international commercial arbitration, trade agreements, European Union and international law.   This year’s awards went to: •    Ronald Scalise Jr. (TC ’97, L ’00), the A.D. Freeman Professor of Civil Law at Tulane, won the John Minor Wisdom Award for Academic Excellence in Legal Scholarship, which is awarded to the author of the best article in the current volume. Scalise, who is also the faculty advisor to the Law Review, won for his article, “Some Fundamentals of Trusts: Ownership or Equity in Louisiana?” <

•    Colleen Murphy (L ’18) and Coleman Torrans (SE ’14, L ’18) won the Robert E. Friedman Law Review Award Established in honor of Friedman, a 1935 graduate of Tulane Law School and Editor-in-Chief of the Tulane Law Review in 1934-35. It is awarded annually on the nomination of a committee to the student submitting the best comment appearing in the current volume of the Tulane Law Review. <

•    Erin Morrissey (LA ’17, L ’19) won the Gertler Law Review Award, established by alumnus Judge David Gertler L ’33) and awarded on the nomination of a committee to the first-year member of the Tulane Law Review submitting the best case note in the current volume. •    Leigh Ackal (SE ’09, L ’18) received the Dean Rufus C. Harris Civil Law Award, established in 1974 by Colonel and Mrs. John H. Tucker, Jr., to promote interest in Civil Law Scholarship.  This award is presented at the Banquet each year to the student author of the best case note or comment on a civil law subject. •    The Charles Janvier II (L’40) Award went to Jody Schisel-Meslin (L ’18 and senior member) and Anais Jaccard (L ’18 and junior member). It is awarded to a senior and junior Review member, who, in the view of their fellow members, have made the most significant contributions to production excellence. •    Leigh Ackal (SE ’09, L ’18) received the Class of 2000 Law Review Award, given to the senior member of the Board of Student Editors who has most effectively contributed to the success of the year’s publication program. •    Collin Buisson (B ‘15, L ’18) received the Conrad Meyer III Law Review Award. It is awarded in honor of 1947 law graduate Conrad Meyer III (who served with distinction as Chairman of the Law Review’s Board of Advisory Editors for 12 years) to the member who, in the view of their fellow members, has consistently exhibited outstanding leadership skills and dedication. •    Annie Hundley (L ’18) received the Class of 2000 Academic Leadership Award, given to the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, in appreciation for his or her work in leading the Review for the year. <
