Maritime law volumes dedicated to Professor Martin Davies

American Maritime Cases, publisher of collected volumes of significant maritime law decisions by U.S. federal and state courts and other legal decisions important to the industry, has dedicated its 2016 Annual Bound Volumes to Tulane Law School’s Martin Davies, Admiralty Law Institute Professor of Maritime Law and director of the Maritime Law Center.

“Just as Martin excels in his scholarship and teaching, he also excels in his service to our community, particularly in his stewardship of the Tulane Maritime Law Center,” AMC said in an announcement of the honor on the organization’s Facebook page.

AMC was established in 1923 and is considered the basic source for researching American maritime law.

At a special ceremony, University of Texas Law Professor Michael Sturley called Davies a prolific scholar and “a great teacher — a fact that countless Tulane students have confirmed to me over the years.”

Davies, who joined the Tulane Law faculty in 2000, is a former professional actor and an international authority on admiralty law who has taught in Australia, England, Singapore and Italy as well as the United States. He received the Felix Frankfurter Distinguished Teaching Award from the Tulane Law graduating classes of 2003 and 2011 and a Tulane University President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2012.
