Radical Extremism Topic of May 8 Panel at Tulane Law

A panel of internationally recognized experts will gather at Tulane Law School on May 8 to discuss the influence of radical extremism in North America and Europe. Titled “Slow and Steady: The Continuous Mainstreaming of Right-Wing Extremism,” the discussion will take place at 5 p.m. May 8 in the at the law school’s Wendell H. Gauthier Appellate Moot Court Room, 110, in John Giffen Weinmann Hall, 6329 Freret St.  A reception will follow. Populism movements leveraged increasing extremism during elections and how the movements are connected across borders. The panelist are: •    Heidi Beirich of the Southern Poverty Law Center. Beirich leads the SPLC’s Intelligence Project, which

ublishes the Intelligence Report and the Hatewatch blog.  She is an expert on various forms of extremism, including the white supremacist, nativist and neo-Confederate movements as well as racism in academia . •    Thomas Greven is Associate Professor of Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin and at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies and an expert on right-wing extremism. •    Rafal Pankowski is a co-founder of the Never Again Association. He is an author and a leading Polish expert on anti-Semitism. •    Ralf Melzer, who will moderate the panel, is with the non-profit Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), the oldest political foundation in Germany. Its mission is to promote social democratic foundations of freedom, justice and solidarity.  The event is free and open to the public.
