Erin J. Law (L ’99), in-house counsel with Morgan Stanley in New York, won the ABA Pro Bono Publico Award for her exemplary leadership in pro bono service, including helping to launch Morgan Stanley’s pro bono program. An associate at Weil Gotshal & Manges in New York before moving to Morgan Stanley after the financial crisis, Law was also honored last year by her former firm with its 2016 Distinguished Young Alumnus Award. “I am honored to receive the ABA’s prestigious Pro Bono Publico Award,” Law said. “My pro bono work has been among the most rewarding work I have had the privilege to undertake, so this award is especially meaningful to me.” John G. Allelo (L ’87), a senior foreign service officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development, was presented with the 2017 Fellows Award by the ABA Young Lawyers Division at its annual gala. Past winners of this award include Justice Lewis Powell (1987), Judge John Minor Wisdom (1991), then-First Lady Hillary Clinton (1996) and Rep. John Lewis (2004).

“As I look back on my career to date, I am reminded how important one's educational foundation is to success in our profession,” said Allelo. “My experience at Tulane, the contacts and colleagues I met there, the realization that the legal profession can make a difference in our world, and the inspiration to do so—these forged my foundation and I am forever grateful to Tulane for helping build it.”  Allelo has built his career in public service promoting peace and democracy in turbulent postings around the world. Allelo currently resides in Islamabad and serves as Director of the Office of Stabilization and Governance with USAID in Pakistan. He plays a key role working with Pakistani government officials to build democratic institutions, promote free elections, and counter violent extremism. Before Pakistan, Allelo was posted in Colombia, where he was integrally involved in U.S. efforts to help resolve that country’s decades-old guerilla war and encourage reconciliation and reparations for victims of the conflict.

Allelo has dedicated a cash award that came with the ABA recognition to the Tulane Law School.
