Criminal Law Society

The Criminal Law Society was founded in 1998 to bring together students who have an interest in criminal law and to provide members with opportunities to learn more about the US criminal justice system as a whole. The Society endeavors to address all aspects of the system and has members interested in law enforcement, defense work, and prosecution. The organization hosts speakers and events, including a seminar on criminal trial practice. Activities have included a field trip to the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola to tour prison facilities, with the objective of showing students what happens to individuals who are escorted out of the courtroom, bound for prison. Members of the Society have participated in 'ride-alongs' with the New Orleans Police Department. The Society schedules speaking opportunities for a diverse group of criminal law practitioners, including defense attorneys, prosecutors, judges, and local law enforcement officials.
