Eason-Weinmann Center hosts conference on refugees Nov. 16-17
With 65 million refugees in the world today, their fate and what the future holds for them internationally is the topic of a major conference at Tulane Law School.
The international conference, Refugees Endure: WWII Displaced Persons versus Today and the Lessons Learned will be held Nov. 16-17th , presented by the Eason-Weinmann Center for International and Comparative Law at Tulane.
A first of its kind, the conference will focus on the lessons learned from the challenges of the 10 to 12 million refugees following WWII and their application to today’s over 65 million world refugees.

Among the topics to be addressed:
- An overview of displaced persons in historical context
- Life in camps
- Overview of refugees worldwide
- Legal considerations/definitions of refugees in an international law context
- Possible solutions
Additionally, this conference will examine the contributions by refugees through their art, music, and the oral vignettes of their experiences.
A wide range of speakers from various organizations are planning to attend; including Tulane University, Rice University, Texas A&M, University of Oxford, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, International Rescue Committee, Facing History and Ourselves, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Among notable speakers are:
- Jana Mason, Senior Adviser, United Nations High Commission for Refugees
- Douglas Brinkley, Presidential Historian, Rice University
- J.D. McCrary, Executive Director, International Rescue Committee
The event is free to Tulane students and faculty. General registration for the public is $75.
Registration for the 12 CLE credits (Texas and Louisiana) is $125.
