Breaking Bad actor is keynote at 6th annual Entertainment and Sports Law Conference

Actor and Breaking Bad star Jonathan Banks is the keynote speaker at the 6th annual Tulane Entertainment and  Sports Law Conference Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4.

Banks will have a no-holds-barred conversation with alum Jeff Frost (L’89), president and founder of Bristol Circle Entertainment and a leading figure in entertainment law, during what has become a premier conference at Tulane Law each year. The event is open to the public, with registration required, and will be held at John Giffen Weinmann Hall, 6329 Freret St.

Banks is best known for his starring role as hitman and fixer Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. His career spans several decades in both film and television.

In addition to the keynote, the conference will feature panels with distinguished attorneys and those working in the business of sports and entertainment, and will touch on such topics as legal issues affecting the industry, emerging trends and addressing diversity in the field. For example, on Friday, the schedule includes six different panels on cutting-edge entertainment and sports topics, featuring lawyers who have represented or worked with stars like Alicia Keys, Jason Sudeikis, Jordan Peele, Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Bob Dylan, John Cho, and Heather Graham.  The panels include top lawyers and investors from the NFL, NBA, MLB, Premier League, and more as well as Academy Award and Grammy Award winners, top executives from major platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime and others.

Saturday's panels are open just to Tulane students and recent alumni, with high-profile speakers on topics like “Breaking into the Industry” designed for young professionals. 

The event is organized by Tulane Law Professor Gabe Feldman, Director of the Sports Law Program, in partnership with the Tulane Center for Sport and alumni Kevin Yorn (L’90), founding partner of the Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Entertainment Law Firm; Tim Francis (L ’84), Counsel, Sher Garner, who has worked with artists and athletes including Stevie Wonder, Lionel Hampton, Wynton Marsalis; and Frost, who last year stepped down as president of Sony Pictures to found his own production company, Bristol Circle Entertainment.
