Forrester Fellows, Murphy Visiting Professor join Tulane Law this fall

Two new Forrester Fellows, early-career legal scholars, and a new Murphy visiting professor have joined the law school this fall.

Professors Ian J. Murray and Jessica Tueller joined the faculty in July and will teach Legal Research and Writing for first-year law students as Forrester Fellows, a position designed for early-career educators who plan to apply as tenure-track law faculty.

Murray also is completing a Ph.D. in Law at the European University Institute, where he received his LL.M in Comparative, European and International Laws in 2020. His research interests include transnational regulatory networks, corporate accountability, sports law, and law and capitalism.

Murray earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2015 and a B.A. in History from the University of Pennsylvania in 2011.  Prior to pursuing an academic career, he practiced law as a Corporate Associate in the New York office of Covington & Burling, LLP, where he focused on private equity transactions.

Tueller previously served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Public Policy at Wesleyan University and as a Clinical Supervisor for the University Network for Human Rights. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and her J.D. from Yale.

Her research focuses on tensions between and among progressive ideologies and movements, especially in the areas of feminism and international law. She investigates the origins and extent of these tensions, and in so doing often develops new approaches that further intersectional and coalitional work on gender equality and human rights.

Prior to her time at Wesleyan, Tueller completed a Robina Fellowship at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, where she worked across the Rapporteurship on the Rights of LGBTI Persons and the Rapporteurship on the Rights of Women.

Ata Hindi joins Tulane as the Murphy Visiting Assistant Professor of Law. Prior to joining Tulane Law, he was a Research Fellow in International Law at the Birzeit University Institute of Law, serving as Assistant Editor to the Palestine Yearbook of International Law.

Hindi holds a J.D. from Emory University, Advanced LLM in Public International Law from Leiden University, and Master’s in Global Affairs and Bachelor’s in Political Science, both from Rutgers University-Newark. He is completing his Ph.D. in Law at Tilburg University on the “Colonial and Imperial Legacies on the Laws of War.” He has worked for Diakonia, the Coalition for the International Criminal Court, the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, and other NGOs.

The Murphy Visiting professorship is offered with the support of the Murphy Institute at Tulane, an interdisciplinary unit specializing in political economy and ethics that draws faculty from the university’s departments of economics, philosophy, history, and political science. Murphy scholars receive support for research in areas of law and political economy, as well as their efforts to apply for tenure-track law school positions during the second year of the professorship.
