Biography

Mateusz Grochowski is an expert in contract law, the digital economy, consumer protection and comparative private law.

In his current research, he explores algorithmic price personalization, the commodification and decommodification of social media, and the production of regulatory knowledge in AI-driven digital markets. His work appeared, amongst others, in Oxford Studies in Private Law Theory, Loyola Consumer Law Review, Oxford Yearbook of European Law (Oxford University Press), and European Review of Contract Law. He recently co-edited The Cambridge Handbook of Algorithmic Price Personalization and the Law and Enforcing Private Regulation in the Platform Economy.

He joined Tulane Law School from the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, where he served as a Senior Research Fellow.  In 2025, he was named the Gordon Gamm Faculty Scholar for the 2026 year where he will pursue a research agenda on “Transnational Consumer Law in the Digital Era.”

Grochowski previously held the Emile Noël Fellowship at New York University School of Law, was a Fellow at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics, the Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center at Tel Aviv University’s Buchmann Faculty of Law, and a Max Weber Fellowship at the European University Institute in Florence. He was also appointed a member of the Office of Studies and Analyses of the Supreme Court of Poland.

He is an Affiliated Fellow at the Information Society Project at Yale Law School, a Corresponding Fellow at the Yale Center for Private Law, and a Council Member of the Louisiana State Law Institute. He is also a member of the European Law Institute and the Society of European Contract Law.

He has received scholarships and research grants from numerous institutions, including Yale University (Fox International Fellowship), the European Commission, and the German-Italian Center for European Dialogue (Villa Vigoni).

He has taught private law at the Universities of Münster and Hamburg and has served as a visiting professor at Università Bocconi in Milan.

He has held several editorial roles, including Lead Editor at the Yale Journal on Regulation, Editor at the Yale Journal of Law & Technology, and Editor at the Journal of European Consumer and Market Law. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Rabel Journal of Comparative and International Private Law.

In his spare time, he explores the connections among classical music, jazz, and law.
