The Tulane Center for Energy Law was launched with a $2 million endowment gift from energy industry veteran and Tulane graduate Jim McCulloch, executive vice president and general counsel for Houston-based Forum Energy Technologies, and his wife, Susan.

Through the Center, Tulane Law aims to leverage its strengths in the related fields of maritime, environmental and international law to build a world-leading program in energy law.

International Team of Academics Examines Meaning of Energy Law

Tulane academics are participating in an international study that is trying to develop a set of guiding principles for energy law. Environmental law includes such principles and it is possible to distinguish a set of principles for energy law as well.

Renewable Energy Support Schemes at European Court of Justice

The latest chapter in the European saga of renewable energy support schemes and their more problematic elements is the case C-492/14 Essent Belgium from the European Court of Justice. Sirja-Leena Penttinen's article, "The Next Chapter in the Saga of Renewable Energy Support Schemes: Still 'a Certain Degree of Mystery'", which is published in the European Law Review, assesses the judgment in the light of preceding judgments such as Ålands Vindkraft and Essent Belgium delivered in 2014 and examines whether the recently delivered judgment clarifies the current state of play in any respect.

NGLs Interview with Eric Smith on Gas Strategies

Eric Smith from the A.B. Freeman School of Business’ Energy Institute comments on the developments in US natural gas liquids. He notes how record levels of NGLs production are creating troublesome bottlenecks in parts of the country, while also spurring big investments which add value to supply from the Marcellus shale.
