The criminal legal system’s response to domestic violence can significantly impact survivors, their children, and the community we live in. Part of the Domestic Violence Clinic’s mission is to help ensure that the criminal legal system is responsive to the needs of survivors. The Clinic provides support and advocacy to victims of abuse through criminal legal processes related to their abuse, helping them understand their options, and often accompanying them to court. The Clinic also provides extensive training and consultation to law enforcement on best practices in responding to domestic violence, to prosecutors on prosecuting domestic violence, and to criminal defense attorneys representing victims charged with crimes.
